UNS N06035 G-35, also known as Hastelloy G-35, is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy designed to resist "wet process" phosphoric acid used in fertilizer production. Similar to Hastelloy G-30, it exhibits excellent resistance to localized corrosion in the presence of chlorides, which can be a problem under deposits in evaporators used to concentrate "wet process" phosphoric acid. In addition, it is significantly less sensitive to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking compared to traditional stainless steels and nickel-chromium-iron alloys used in "wet process" phosphoric acid. Due to its high chromium content, Hastelloy G-35 has excellent resistance to other oxidizing acids (such as nitric acid) and nitric acid-containing mixtures. It also has moderate resistance to reducing acids and, unlike other Ni-Cr-Mo alloys, it has strong resistance to "caustic gouging" in hot sodium hydroxide. It maintains high strength at elevated temperatures and is resistant to chloride ion stress corrosion.
The applications of Hastelloy G-35 include wet process phosphoric acid production evaporators, pickling equipment using nitric acid, caustic soda neutralization systems, and chemical systems involving nitric acid and chlorides.
