Alloy C-4, also known as Hastelloy C-4, is a nickel Alloy C-4, also known as Hastelloy C-4, is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy that exhibits excellent corrosion resistance.
Hastelloy C-4 differs from other similarly chemically composed alloys of its time in its low levels of carbon, silicon, iron, and tungsten. This composition allows Hastelloy C-4 to demonstrate excellent stability at temperatures between 650-1040ºC. It improves resistance to intergranular corrosion and can avoid stress corrosion cracking susceptibility and heat-affected zone corrosion in the weld under appropriate manufacturing conditions if proper precautions are taken against hot cracking. In addition, Hastelloy C-4 has excellent thermal stability and toughness at high temperatures and good resistance to stress corrosion cracking in oxidizing atmospheres.
Due to its high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and high strength, Hastelloy C-4 can be widely used in various environments. For example, it can be used for equipment and components that handle strong media such as wet chlorine, oxidizing chlorides, chloride salts, and various organic acids, halogen gases, etc. In addition, it is widely used in flue gas desulfurization systems, acetic acid and agricultural chemical production, and titanium dioxide production.
